What is the Shopping Cart?

Your Shopping Cart is a helpful shopping tool that gives you easy access to the items you've chosen to buy. It is always in the upper right hand corner of your screen. Your Shopping Cart also displays your subtotal, shipping charges, and approximate delivery time.

What is an ISBN?

ISBN is the International Standard Book Number. This 10-digit number, located on the copyright page of a book or the back cover near the bar code, is a publishing standard used for identifying a book. All books must have one.

Do you offer used books?

We carry many used book titles at extremely low prices. The condition of the books is the same that you'll find in the used book section of your campus store; some markings, highlighting, etc., but generally in very good shape. When ordering books, the title you select will appear in both new and used forms when available. Please make sure you are selecting the version you want when you make your purchase. And remember; there may be more than one ISBN for the title you want, so searching by ISBN is always the safest way to find the edition you're looking for.

Can I place my order by phone?

We generally discourage phone orders for a variety of reasons, including security, speed of service, accuracy of order information, and overall ease of ordering. Our online ordering process offers you the most secure, accurate, and convenient ordering method.

If you feel that you must order by phone, please call our Customer Service Center at (800) 887-6459.

What if I can't find the book I want?

First, make sure you entered all author, title, or ISBN information correctly. If you still cannot find the book, try your search using one word from the title.

If your search results list multiple books with the same or similar titles or authors, chances are they are different editions of the same book. To make sure you select the book you need, look at the edition, publisher, date of publication, and type of publication (teacher or student edition).

Some books are accompanied by a CD-Rom or other software, and are marked as such on our site. A text marked as "text only" does not include any additional media.

Can my book be backordered if it isn't available now?

Certain items may be backordered. If the book you are trying to get can be backordered you will be made aware of this option.

What if I encounter problems navigating on your web site?

If you experience any problems while ordering on our Web site, please let us know. You can report the problem to our Customer Service Center at customerservice@textbookx.com and send us an email message describing the difficulties you've had. It would be extremely helpful to us if you could include the following information as well:

  • Date and time you encountered the problem
  • Operating system you are using (Windows 98, Mac System 8, etc.)
  • Browser type and version number (Netscape Navigator 6.0, Internet Explorer 5.5, etc.)
  • The text of any error message that appeared on your window

I received a copy of a book that was clearly marked "Review Copy -- Not For Sale". Why would you sell me this book?

Review copies of books (also called "promotional" or "complimentary" copies) are usually provided free of charge to college faculty and/or staff by publishers. These books are generally marked "Review Copy -- Not For Sale", but faculty and staff are often willing to sell them to used book wholesalers. While it is entirely legal to do so, Akademos does not condone this practice and we would urge faculty and staff to donate unwanted review copies to needy students rather than sell them to wholesalers. As we buy large quantities of books from used book wholesalers, we are unable to avoid purchasing a certain number of these books. To put it simply, these books are a long-established part of the general supply of used books for most college textbook vendors both online and off. Please be assured, in any case, that in no circumstances do we acquire these books for free before selling them to you.
